Brandt Peters opens Cackle Factory, his first LA solo, at Gallery 1988 tonight – Tuesday, February 3rd 2009. The show is looking quite strong, his best work to date. There have been quite a few previews pics of his paintings, so we thought we’d preview some of the 3D work in the show – customs and one-off sculptures.
We’ll start big, ok huge… with the 48” Peacemaker sculpture. This massively up-sized version of the Peacemaker 32.9 vinyl debuting at NYCC from MINDstyle is pretty astounding. We were not surprised to see some excellent custom Slap Happy and Muggles vinyls. The surprise was the plush and mixed-media sculptures such as Brandt’s familiar octopus (ink slinger) cruisin’ retro style and his snarling milk-bottle monsters with plush tentacles.
