Marka27’s Minigod series has seen continued success from the initial MG1 Brazil through the MG2 Mexico. The fusion of Marka’s indigenous vinyl approach, built-in working speaker and towering size provides a unique and compelling experience. While we’ve enjoyed all the MG releases, our favorite hands down so far is the BrokenBones “Day of the Dead” MG2 (17").
This Black ‘n White special edition was first released this past December at VTN and should be available from your favorite retailer shortly. BrokenBones brings out the hard-edged lines and wicked personality of the MG2 Mexico sculpt. In paying tribute to the Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead ) tradition which honors the deceased, Marka has designed the most complicated minigod to date. Staying true to the series’s inspiration, Dia De Los Muertos has its origins in ancient indigenous cultures including Mayan and Aztec civilizations.
Prior MG’s have relied primarily on sections of solid color for deco. BrokenBones ups the ante with numerous intricate graphics including many traditional and some contemporary takes. From skulls (calaveras) to crosses to ceremonial flowers, the graphics are stunning and carefully printed.
Limited to just 150 pieces for $120 per figure, the the BrokenBones “Day of the Dead” Minigod is an affordable way to add undeniable style, size (17”), and functionality to your collection (doubles as a speaker). After several successful releases, it bears noting that the haters who originally dubbed the MG’s as nothing more than a rip of Jason Siu’s speakerhead toys failed to look beyond the functional aspect and did not appreciate the strong design approach.
