Seen: Zoso – No Rest for the Weary

DSC_7114_500

LA painter Zoso opened his No rest for the Weary solo tonight (8.28.08) @ Munky King on Melrose.  While Zoso doesn’t really have a signature or character look per se, his long-necked characters with bulbous heads are striking and unique. In addition to portraits of these oddly shaped people, there’s a lot of  variety on offer from portraits of rodents to his new environment-based work featuring imaginary shanty towns.

In addition to the paintings, Zoso sculpted his Edsel Livermore character and then had Pretty in Pink produced a limited-edition of 5 resin figures (more or less busts).  You might be expecting an additional run of these figures, but it’s not in the plans. Rather than tread on the value and interest created in part due to the super small run, he’s indicated he’ll likely create a new sculpt for his next resin figure. Check out more pics of the show and opening after the jump.
