Buff Monster returned to Corey Helford Gallery with the opening of his Sweetest Thing solo this past Saturday evening (8.23.08). The master of Pink finds himself straddling two rather distinct styles – the first features bubbly orgasmic landscapes while the second newer approach is driven by his fascination with Japanese Kaiju monsters. Where his older work features organic curves of all sorts, his beastie infused work brandishes hard gemometic patterns and Japanese kanji sayings.
What’s the Sweetest Thing? Fusion. For this latest show, Buff Monster has combined his two approaches to varying degrees. The result is eye-catching in a manner that eclipses most of his previous work. The bright and attractive images belie the work and rigor behind them.
