Seen – Blek le Rat – Art is not Peace but War

French artist Blek le Rat,  redefined street art and graffiti through his innovative stencil work.  His Art is not Peace but War solo officially opens to the public today — Saturday April 5th 2008 (8-11 PM) as the inaugural show of Shepard Fairey’s newly relocated Subliminal Projects.

We were fortunate enough to attend the Friday night preview and brought back some pics of the legend’s art work available at the show — ranging from massive canvas pieces to photographs of his classic street pieces.  Fans will no doubt recognize some of the pieces including Last Tango and the Man Who Walks Through The Walls (depicting Blek himself).   Click through for plenty more pics.

The show also features a great wood fence installation mounted on the gallery’s wall — a nice touch which reconnects Blek’s art to the street.

Subliminal Projects is offering four screen prints (100 pieces of each, $100/print) of  Sybille Prou’s photographs of some of her husband Blek’s most celebrated street work [see Supertouch].  The numbered prints of Computerman, The Man who Goes Through The Walls, David and Florence Aubenas are signed by Sybille Prou, Blek le Rat and Shepard Fairey.  Advance copies of the english edition of Blek le Rat – Getting Through the Walls by Sybille Prou will be available at the oping.

Art is not Peace but War continues through May 2nd, 2008.
