The Kokeshi show opened last Saturday night (11.03.07) @ Subtext in San Diego. Curated by Christina Conway, the show featured custom wood Kokeshi dolls from a strong international group of artists. While we couldn’t make it out for the opening, Drevanfuzen did and they sent back these nice shots of the show. We’ve also taken the small liberty of reposting shots of the crowd/artists from Christina’s flickr. There are some really nice pieces here — packed with detail. Though other than Cameron Tiede, no one really played with the shape of the figure. The show runs through December 17th, so if you missed the opening there’s still some time to catch it. Lastly, blank Kokeshi dolls are available if you want to take a shot at creating your own.
