Mike Leavitt – Art Army Young Guns (12.8.2007)

Mike Leavitt captures the likeness of popular artists with  unique hand-made one-of-a-kind toys for his Art Army project.  For his third show in three years at Copro Nason, Mike brings us "Young Guns" on December 8th, 2007 from 6 to 10 PM featuring his toy caricatures of  lowbrow and pop surrealist painters such as Audrey Kawasaki, Travis Louie, Jeremy Fish, Craola, Luke Chueh, Joe Ledbetter Chet Zar, Kathy Olivas, Amy Sol,  Friends With You and more.  The  10" toy  figures of each artist are hand-built by Mike from scratch — each unique, blending the artist’s likeness with his or her artistic creations.  The results vary from humorous to spectacular. Many (if not all) of the pieces are completed with thematic bases and accessories.  While they are all impressive, we’re blown away by the Craola figure featuring Greg morphed with a snail that could have easily sprung to life from one of his paintings.   As an exclamation point to these new artist figures, Young Guns  is anchored by a large 20" articulated wood rendition of Superstar painter Mark Ryden.
