UK author and illustrator Curtis Jobling has worked on and created a string of successful children’s entertainment projects from his character designs on the Bob the Builder animated series to his children’s book Frankenstein’s Cat which will air on the BBC in January ’08 + Nickelodeon in the near future as an animated series. And there’s more on the horizon. His Biteneck Beatniks animated series featuring ghastly yet cute musicians is currently under production from Sardine Productions. And the toy connection… Curtis is working with Toy2R on a Biteneck Beatniks series of vinyl figures. The first out of the chute is Ron Go Bongo Blue Edition. Ron Go Bongo stands (well… sits) 6.5" tall and this first blue colorway is limited to 300 pieces and will retail for $300/HK (~ $39.00). The promo ad above features a prototype of the figure which as you know means the final production piece may vary slightly.
It’s good to see Toy2R producing new original figures in addition to their proven platforms. We’re definitely seeing a trend towards licensing of children’s animated properties into vinyl figures. Curious to see how this approach pans out.
