Seen: Tim Tsui @ mixi-bang! (10.20.07)

HK artist and ape master Tim Tsui opened his first USA solo @ mixi-bang! this past Saturday in conjunction with GreyOne x Soul Assassins .  While we missed the opening, here’s the low down and shots taken after the fact — enjoy.

Tim chose to present an exhibition of a large number of custom ‘Hero’ Da Mincis (not for sale) as well as a retrospective look at his previous figures including Da Ape, Penny, Bling, and Da Minci.  The various hero customs are awesome — the Kamen Rider being our favorite followed closely by ‘Cap.  We’re pretty sure many were jonesing to buy at least one of these pieces.

This show marked a rare opportunity to meet Tim and buy special figures and customs outside of asian venues.    The show exclusives were led by a mixi-bang! x GreyOne x Soul Assassins Da Minci  available in two variants each with the same body and different masks — mixi-bang! has the blue mask and GreyOne has the grey mask.  In addition to the new production Da Minci, Tim also offered a limited-edition series of custom Da Heros featuring the likeness of the caped crusader (15 pieces, $450).  Rounding out the toys, Tim switched things up with the Metal Mincis — small retro tin/metal Da Minci toys (100 pieces, $65).

In addition to the toys, Tim brought over several one-of-a-kind Giclees as well as a small number of hand-done original (spray paint) pieces on wood board. Finally, there were also mini giclee prints and a dope show Tee produced by GreyOne.  The mixi-bang! Da Minci is available online and the GreyOne is availabe at the GreyOne store on Holly (and perhaps the other Pasadena location as well — call first).

Here’s hoping Tim Tsui becomes an annual tradition @ mixi-bang! much in the way we look forward to Touma’s show each year (November 10th this year, announcement + pics of the exclusives soon).
