Baby Tattooville, a limited-edition art retreat, begun Friday at the historic Mission Inn in Riverside, CA. Set in what can only be described as a breathtaking one-of-a-kind venue with discoveries around every twist and turn, the weekend event features a strong roster of artists — Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, Luke Chueh, Gris Grimly, James Jean, Frank Kozik, Lola, Tara McPherson, Ragnar, Jeffery Scott, Jeff Soto and Amanda Visell.
Guests checked into their rooms to find a box full of Baby Tattoo’s recent book releases. At guest registration, attendees received a special Baby Tattooville print by Amanda Visell with a blank stomach for personal customization. At the welcome reception, Bob Self — the founder of Baby Tattoo, introduced each artist and officially kicked off the Artist Jam. Over roughly 24 hours, the BT artists will collaborate on a canvas piece which will then be captured and turned into a giclee print between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
The first night of Baby Tattooville continued into the wee hours with three ongoing events — James Jean’s life drawing session, a demo of Jeffery Scott’s unique digital manipulation photo art technique, and an opportunity to watch Lola work on paintings for her upcoming Copro Nason show.
