Beyond Ultraman explores vinyl toys as an art medium through the exhibition of work from seven leading Californian artists in this relatively new genre — Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, David Gonzales, David Horvath, Sun-Min Kim, Brian McCarty, and Mark Nagata. Opening on Thursday, October 11th, 2007 from 7 to 9 PM @ the Pasadena California Museum of Art (PCMA), the exhibition is a collaboration with the Los Angeles Toy, Doll and Amusement Museum (LATDA). Beyond Ultraman will offer a retrospective of each artist’s toy art. The show is one of the few (if not only) museum exhibitions focused specifically on vinyl art toys. Admission to the museum is $5.
In addition to an excellent opportunity to learn about vinyl toys as art, the show will also offer visitors a chance to purchase highly-sought after figures. David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim will release a special set of Mothman and Flatwoods Monster Mommy and Daddy Type figures (36 sets) during their Bossy Bear reading event on Saturday, October 13th @ 1 PM in the PMCA Museum store. Don’t snooze.
