Proto Monday >> Vivisect Playset – Scurvy Nevil by Craola

The upcoming Vivisect Playset mini-fig series from STRANGEco features all-new original toy designs  from seven of the core artists of the Vivisect Playset annual art show. In its 3rd year, The Vivisect Playset is a group show curated by Los Angeles artist Luke Chueh and hosted by Gallery 1988. For Proto Monday we’re excited that STRANGEco and Gallery 1988 have allowed us to show the prototype of Greg "Craola" Simkins’ Vivisect Playset figure, SCURVY NEVIL, his first original toy.

As you can see this little guy is wicked and matches Craola’s style to a ‘T’ with multiple elements flowing seamlessly into the next.  Craola’s creatures are a challenge to classify or label —  a testament to his wild imagination.  His creativity is on full display in the original turnaround sketches he drew of Scurvy Nevil shown below.

We can’t wait to see the painted version of Scurvy Nevil and get a look at the other six figures in the set.The complete line-up of all seven artists’ figures in the toy series will be revealed at the opening of Vivisect Playset 3 this Thursday December 7th from 7 to 10 PM @ Gallery 1988.  The blind-boxed Vivisect Playset series will drop in Spring of ’07 from STRANGEco. Please note that the pictures shown here are of an unpainted prototype. We leave you with a sneak peek of one of Craola’s pieces for Vivisect Playset featuring Scurvy Nevil.

  1. Yes. That is a great piece. Totally different elements all coming together there. Looking forward to seeing the paint.

  2. Can’t wait to see who the other six artists in the series are going to be. I bet one of them is Luke Chueh!
