Presented by Scion and Beautiful/Decay, Archive featuring works from Aya Kato, Friends With You, Jesse Ledoux and SKWAK opened this past Saturday (8.19) at Scion Installation LA in Culver City. This is the second show we’ve attend at the very spacious Scion
Installation LA. The vibe is very laid back — this time the center of
the gallery served as a chill out zone complete with white leather
sofas guarded by the giant white Friends With You guradian floating
above. This was our first introduction to Jesse Ledoux’s menagerie of
affable creatures and Aya Kato’s gorgeously rendered metaphysical
paintings infused with asian imagery.
While we’re familiar with SKWAK’s meticulous and mind-blowing customs this is the first chance we’ve had to view his 2D work. Each of his giclee on canvas pieces carried his signature style of hand-drawn characters into the digital realm with chaotic and densely packed crowds alive with action.
The one constant in Friends With You’s creations is an infectious and unpredictable presentation of wackiness. Among several smaller 2D pieces, the standouts were the gigantic blimp-like creature dangling from the center of the gallery (complete with happy face) and the huge wood sculpture.
