In Asia, designer toys and consumer electronics promotion go hand-in-hand. Here are pics of the 2.5" Egg Qee available to purchasers of the Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone – W800i in Taiwan. Cell phone releases are apparently major events — check out the huge line and all the phone babes. This Egg Qee is slightly unusual in that a plug can be screwed into the top of the Qee which can then be attached to a key chain. The design pictured in the illustration doesn’t seem to match up with the pictures below — the mouth on the illustration is made up out of the corporate logo while the pic has a regular mouth. Either way, the design isn’t overly promo/corporate, so that’s a plus. Here’s a question for you – how do you feel about promotional toys? For collectors, are they primarily of interest to completists? Would you like to see promotional toys in the West? Is it mostly about the design in the end? (my take).
