James Jarvis at Kidrobot LA

Fresh from Comic-Con, James Jarvis dropped by Kidrobot LA last night (Tuesday, the 19th) for a signing event.  The turnout was quite good — at least 30 people showed up to meet James, have him sign toys and draw custom sketches.  Plus, Pete Fowler was there as well!  A big highlight of the night was Jarvis’ sketches. While some fans showed up prepared with sketch books, James also had the rest covered with a large stack of crisp blank paper.  Each fan was treated to a detailed and gorgeous sketch.  I was really impressed with the amount of time James spent on each sketch — I’m sure each  lucky person will treasure their personalized Jarvis art.  It’s great to see artists who really enjoy signings as chance to interact with their fans!

Toys… People were getting both  the various "In Crowd" and King Ken toys signed.  The King Kens are quite impressive in person — especially the two flocked versions.  Random aside — these toys are encased in a hard white plastic interior packaging that might make one want to scream "give me my toy!".  I don’t think I’ve ever seen this type of packaging on a toy before.  People resorted to X-acto blades which is slightly scary considering that some of these are flocked and easily damaged.   Some fans just had Jarvis sign the bottom of King Ken’s feet to avoid dealing with removing the entire packaging.  This worked well — the toy looks great with "James" on one foot and "Jarvis" on the other.

Thanks to James Jarvis and the entire KR LA crew for an excellent and relaxed event!  Events like this make me realize how nice it is to live so close to one of the KR stores…
