While they aren’t quite ready to announce specific release information, Circus Posterus has announced that they will indeed be at this year’s SDCC. In fact, they will be taking over Cardboard Spaceship’s booth (#5346) on Saturday (7.20), the busiest day of the ‘con. Chris Ryniak, Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, and Amanda Louise Spayd will all be at the booth offering plenty of goodies such as customs, originals, new releases and if things work out, an exclusive or two. So if you love all things CP, plan to spend at least a good chunk of saturday at the Cardboard Spaceship booth.
Scott Tolleson x 3DRetro – Bitta Critta
3DRetro will release the OG edition of Scott Tolleson’s Bitta Critta @ SDCC. Having undergone at least one significant sculpt change, Bitta Critta has been in development for quite some time. Happily, the work’s paid off as the final toy has a nice mix of cute + odd. Yes, characters in animal suits have been done before, but this one keeps drawing the eye back in – a sign of a winning design. Beyond the toy itself, the promo shots by Victoria Lara are interesting as well with Scott making a cameo in two of them. Standing 5” tall, the limited edition Bitta Critta will be available $50.00 from the 3DRetro / Frank Kozik booth (#5051). If you buy one, you can take it over to Scott’s booth (#5139) and he’ll sign it for you.
"Dressed in his dinosaur costume, BittaCritta lurks the streets. He’s always a bit dirty … but, charming from head to feet. With a bottle of his favorite spirit and no love to spare, poor homeless BittaCritta invites you to his cardboard lair."

Rotobox and Kuso’s work on the new 4” MiniCel line is nearly done. Based on the original, larger Celsisus/Fahrenheit figures, the new minis will debut at SDCC. The lineup includes a blind-box series featuring four figures – Minicel and Minifah + chase variants of each design as well as the previously announced stand-alone DIY edition. As with their larger brothers, MiniCel and MiniFah are ready for action with their own accessory loads outs. MiniCel will come equipped with three gun accessories – handgun, regular rifle, and sniper rifle. Preferring to dispatch foes hand-to-hand, Minifah comes with 2 future katanas.
The smaller format Minicel figures offer cute, affordable action at just $15 for the painted blind-box figures and $10 for the DIY editions. They will be available first at Kuso’s SDCC booth [#5642].

Doktor A x Munky King – Mr. Pumfrey in Black + Gold for SDCC ?
Last week we posted a teaser sculpt picture of Doktor A’s upcoming Mr. Pumfrey and his Astounding Mechanized Perambulator figure which is set to debut at SDCC. Today, the good Dok posted a shot of Mr. Pumfreys painted in a black + gold scheme with a touch of red in the eyes. Perhaps the SDCC exclusive will be black + gold, a color combo that Munky King seems to favor for their ‘con drops. Yes, this is speculation and our way of giving this figure the love it deserves. Wait till you see what’s below the cockpit…
Dan Goodsell’s Zombie Bacon Plush @ SDCC
Dan Goodsell will be at SDCC again this year with plenty of Mr. Toast universe products including a brand-new creation. Everybody loves Bacon, but what if it’s Zombie Bacon … ? This humorous plush will be available from the Mr. Toast booth (# 5250).
Scott Tolleson’s Baxstar Fonzo Dropping At SDCC
Scott Tolleson’s Baxstar Fonzo, first created as a custom for the Fonzo show @ myplasticheart back in January, has made the jump to a full standalone production piece coming from Freak Store. The blue + purple figure looks tight and features additional ‘weathering’ beyond the original custom design. Look for Baxstar Fonzo to debut @ SDCC! So far, each artist Fonzo (Gary Ham’s and now Scott’s) has been impressive – hope to see more artist editions soon. Full Baxstar release info shortly. Thanks to the Freak Store guys for the images.

Bob Dob x 3DRetro – Mouseketeer Army ‘Wil’ @ SDCC

3D Retro will release ‘Wil’, the first figure in Bob Dob’s Mouseketeer Army series, as part of their SDCC 2013 lineup. As re-imagined by Bob Dob, the Mouseketeer Army, not riot police, saved the day during the strange but true ‘Yippie’ invasion of Disneyland in the Summer of 1970. Limited to 250 pieces, Wil stands 6” tall and is ready to take on the Yippies, bat in hand. The figures will be available at SDCC for $70 at the 3D Retro / Frank Kozik booths (5049/5051).
If you like this first figure, you’re bound to love the rest of the Mouseketeer Army which is partially shown in a teaser shot after the jump. You’ll be happy to see that Bob Dob and 3D Retro have taken the time to make each of the Mouseketeer soliders distinct. Rather than simple colorways, each character’s personality comes through with unique head sculpts and accessories. Finally, in case you are wondering, there are some subtle color differences between this production run and the small number of preview pieces which were released at last year’s DesignerCon.

Doktor A. x Munky King - Mr. Pumfrey and His Astounding Mechanized Perambulator @ SDCC
Munky King has just posted a photo of what looks to be an amazing release for SDCC. They are working alongside Doktor A. to produce the Mr. Pumfrey and His Astounding Mechanized Perambulator figure. Rotobox x Kuso Vinyl – DIY Minicel @ SDCC
Over the past six months or so we’ve been updating you on the progress of Rotobox x Kuso Vinyl’s minicel project – a smaller, cuter version of the Celsius figure. Now, here’s a look at the DIY minicel which comes with five weapon accessories -- handgun, sniper rifle, rifle, futuristic katana and bazooka. The DIY edition will drop @ SDCC from Kuso’s Booth (#5642) for just $10. Minicel should be a compelling toy platform with its nice humanoid shape, large number of accessories, and very affordable price point. In addition to the DIY, expect painted mini celisus and mini fahrenheit editions to follow.

Rotobox x Kuso – SDCC Exclusive Arctic Revolver Girl 6ix

Fast forward four months and Kuso has officially announced that they’ve chosen the Arctic Revolver Girl 6ix as the exclusive for San Diego. Hopefully they’ll share photos shortly.

Scott Tolleson’s Bitta Critta Vinyl will debut at SDCC
It’s been a little over three years since we revealed the sculpt (Proto Monday) of the first incarnation of Scott Tolleson’s Bitta Critta figure. Feeling that the character was close but not quite spot on, Scott juggled a redesign of his dino-suit wearing toddler along with several other projects including his Nosellots plush line and Deadbeet sofubi project.
Happily, the long wait is almost over. Shown above is a shot of the new Bitta Critta Vinyl OG edition. As you can see, the new Bitta is just a bit (ok, quite a bit) cuter with a smaller horn and an expression more innocent than intimidating. Previewed at his recent group show, the new sculpt looks fantastic -- adorable. Plus, the subtle paint job looks less production and more towards hand-painted original. The OG Bitta Critta drops at this year’s SDCC. Three additional colorways will follow after the debut release.

New SDCC 2013 Toy Cultyard Layout
For 2013, SDCC has consolidated the Toy Growers Cultyard into one contiguous section (dashed lines) and relocated it to the upper left corner of the convention center as you can see in the annotated map above (booth list after the jump). Previously the Cultyard booths were a bit spread out with several large video game companies sprinkled in-between. It’s still early, so don’t be surprised if some of the booth tenants shift slightly. Props to Mr. Z for the map and booth list.
The new layout seems like a modest improvement since all the booths are now together in one nicely defined spot. What do you think of this new layout ?
