Gabriel Carprio – KK Brothers Customs (5.25)

002-kktjuntos

Gabriel Carpio’s (@GabrielCarpiOni) new King Katch customs, KK Brothers, caught my eye with their bold designs and most of all, visceral impact.  While the Asian-inspired Black piece is probably my favorite given the intricate head detail, both feature strong designs making good use of the King Katch form.  Freak Store will offer these on Friday evening (5.25) @ Midnight Venezuelan time (5.25 @ 9:30 PM PDT) for $160 individually, or $300 for the pair.

As promised in our previous post HERE, we’ve got an exclusive shot at one of the custom Uamou figures Paul Kaiju will have available his exhibition show at the Uamou Studio. This may have to be the favorite of the bunch, as he re-used the Devil Horns from Uamou and embedded it into the poor little creature. He also took the Biter Mite from his Salamander Joe figure and used it as the head! Take a look after the jump for more detailed shots, as well as more photos of pieces for the show.

The brothers of Rotobox have been buuusssyy! Not to long ago they showed off their Iron Spider-Man Custom Celsius figure, which was “Marvel”ous. Then they just unleashed two more customs this week. From their Jumbo Machinder Series, Mazinger Z Qee Custom, which comes complete with Hover Pileder, Rocket Punch action and Kabuto Koji! This custom is a one of a kind and is probably for their private vault or some very lucky private collector!

We love to see them working on their own figure, so take a look at the Juohmaru Celsius Custom. A part of their Tribute Series, the Juohmaru is limited to 3 pieces and is available HERE for $340. Were wondering what these guys may be up to now?!

Rotobox Vinyl Anatomica – Iron Spider-Man Celsius Custom

002-IRON-SPIDEY-poster3

Rotobox is back with a sharp new custom Celsius, ‘Iron Spider-Man’.  This homage to two of Marvel’s most popular Super Heroes is part of Rotobox’s ‘Marvelous Materpiece Tribute Series’.  The overall hybrid design with the abstracted spider emblem and the vicious tri-blade backpack is set off with a super glossy red + gold paint application.  This unique piece is already sold – presumably as the result of a private commission.  Less is more?  Definitely in some cases.

Tony Gil – Free Runner Diamond Kid

001-free-runer-diamond-kid-tony-gil-2

Tony Gil is about to release his ‘Free Runner Diamond Kid’ custom (ed. of 5, $300).  His first Kidrobot Mascot-based piece really makes the most of his parkour concept/pose seen in many of his other customs.   The KR fig’s shoes and outfit in general flow nicely into the urban concept.  The ‘94’ on the spray can is a nice touch as well. We’re also digging the bandanna concept though we’d love to see a tighter paint application.  And yes… the pose is reminiscent of  PAW.  In the end though, definitely a fun piece. Look for these to drop on Friday, April 27th 2012 from Tony’s web shop.

Huck Gee – Hotaru Copter Squad “Copter Boy”

DSC05645

Huck Gee gets airborne! Introducing his latest limited edition run coming from the Hotaru Copter Squad, Copter Boy! Featuring goggles, propeller, rockets, and very necessary scarf, Copter Boy comes signed and numbered in an edition of 10 pieces. He also comes packaged in in a laser etched wooden box and will run you $875. If interested, please send an inquiry to sales[at]huckgee[dot]com to claim yours today!

Long before there was the now legendary Hotaru Copter Squad there was simply "Copter Boy" who, with his sister's help, introduced a revolutionary and last minute innovation that turned out to be pivotal in the battle for Mount Shirokuri. The siblings, strapped into their magical, flying contraptions, rained fire down on the enemy, spreading fear and breaking ranks wherever they flew. The tale of Whiskers the Wizard's bumbling stablehands and their preposterous flying experiments turning the tide of that battle is an unbelievable yet jovial chapter in the history of The Three Wars.

Andrew Bell & Gary Ham for Playsam 500 (04.28)

jpeg Autumnlleaves_topview_Ham

The Playsam 500 is just around the corner and as we get closer, we get to see what all of the participating artists have to offer. Above we have submissions from Andrew Bell and Gary Ham.

For Andrew’s piece, he went with the “less is more” route. By adding more simple shaped pieces as well as different stains. He also took two of the wheels and turned one of them into the hands and the other into a miniature Streamliner. Great job Andrew!

Since proceeds of this show will be going to the World Childhood Foundation, Gary decided to go with a fond memory he had when he was a kid. “Some Play in Autumn” features a young child playing in a pile of leaves under a huge tree. Something we all enjoyed when we were kids. The tire swing is a great touch.

The Playsam 500 is taking place this Saturday, April 28th at Super7 in San Francisco.

Otto Bjorniks – Revenge of the Wolves

301722_10150815749147386_68003947385_11694918_1926760160_n

Otto Bjornik is back once again with an amazing  series of custom Dunnys and Munny, which is entitled “Revenge of the Wolves”. This time he has acquired the help of his younger sister to make this a collaborative release, as he does the painting of the figures and she does the sewing of the clothes. Available on Tuesday, April 24th at 9PM EST will be an 8” Lago Dunny ($450) and the Lyca set ($700) that features a 7” Lyca Munny with Dunny Accessory Ears, two 3” Dunny cubs and a 3” Lago Dunny.

The rumbling in her babies' tummies is too much for Lyca to bear.  It has been days since they've last eaten, not since her husband was viciously killed while foraging for food.  Every night, Lyca and her little ones visit the bluffs where she and her husband first fell in love.  There, she wails for their loss and longingly calls out for him in the vast emptiness.  But the only sound that answers is the echo of her cubs' whimpers and the growling of their tummies.

She must snap out of her grief and feed her starving babies.  With a mother's instincts and a widow's vindictiveness, Lyca vows to avenge her husband's murder.  She already got rid of the lumberjack.  All she has to do now is devise a plan to get that rabbit Lago once and for all.

Huck Gee: Not So Glorious Soaring Hatchet Munk

DSC05523

Huck Gee fans must be weak in the knees, as he has just dropped news on his latest Custom Dunny Release. Introducing the Not So Glorious Soaring Hatchet Munk, who is limited to only 10 pieces and includes all that you see, as well as Bronze Infused Stainless Steal Hatchets and laser a etched wooden box. Huck Keeps elevating the level of customs with every release. What’s in store for the next drop? Most likely pure epicness. Each figure is signed, numbered and will cost your wallets $750. Interested in adding this bad-ass custom to your collection? Send an inquiry over to sales[at]huckgee[dot]com.

Revenge. Not a word typically found in the vocabulary of the renowned, reclusive, Golden Glorious Soaring Munks. Acting in a manner related to said word would probably be enough to find oneself no longer a member of said Golden Glorious Soaring Munks. Disgraced. Fallen. Angry. Resolved. Not So Glorious Soaring Hatchet Munk

Note: Going forward, we will now be draping each figure in a more appropriate archival quality fabric than what we have used in the past. Every Huck Gee custom figure will also now come padded and packaged in it's own hand assembled and laser etched wooden box (see photo below) and then boxed within another shipping box. In addition to adding another level of finish to the completed pieces, this will hopefully further reduce the chances of shipping damages while in transit.

Otto Björnik - ‘The Battle of Napaeae Forest’ Wood Elf Custom 3” Dunnys (02.08)

kainginwildfire

We last some of Otto Björnik’s mesmerizing work when we posted about his Custom Dunny and Totem Chess Set HERE. He will soon be releasing some more of his fantastic customs this Wednesday, February 8th at 9PM EST. Take a look at his latest series,‘The Battle of Napaeae Forest’, which features two battling tribes of wood elves, the Wildfire and the Kaingin. They will be available HERE for $100 per 3” Dunny.

I have a question for you to ponder on. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?;) But I don't want to engage you in philosophical banter because the truth is, I really don't know. Assuming it does, it would be the sound of clashing axes, grating chainsaws and crackling ember followed by long screams and a loud thud.

I'm actually talking about the ongoing war between the two tribes of wood elves: Wildfire and Kaingin.  It all started when one elf from the latter named Cannabis forgot to prepare for fall and was stripped naked in front of the neighboring Wildfire.  To save face, Cannabis made up stories that started the rift between the tribes. And now both camps are ready for the face-off. Pick your bets and see who ends up as firewood.
