3DRetro – SDCC Exclusives from Coop, Dok A, KRK Ryden & Nathan Ota

 OTA_SDCC

3DRetro has lined up four exclusives for SDCC 2018.  Let’s start with Mickey Finn from Coop in a stylish, crazy limited edition (50 pcs, $50) rocking both matte and glossy gold. Matte + Glossy is normally done in black, so it’s nice to see a different take.  In person, this one is nice.

Staying with the precious metals, comes a new Anesthesia from Doktor A in silver (50 pcs, $100)  with a reddish patina .   SDCC also brings the return of Moe Hawk from KRK Ryden.  First released in a full color version at DesignerCon, the punk skater strikes back with a stylized mono-ish edition (150 pcs, $60) with a bluish gray.

Finally, 3DRetro will releases a new Coozie from Nathan Ota in a sublime GID edition.  What really sets this apart is that it doesn’t look like a GID piece.  Instead of the pasty white/slightly green appearance, the SDCC Coozie  (100 pcs, $100) brings a vibrant swath of greens

All of these exclusives will be available at the 3DRetro booth [5250].  In addition to their in-house releases, 3DRetro will also have a signing+release from Tokidoki as well as releases from 1000 Toys.

Luke Chueh x Kidrobot – Wannabe Dunny (7.13)

36573884_492334117865239_5848008632507039744_n

For Friday the 13th, Kidrobot unleashes Luke Chueh’s misfit take on platform toys with the 5” Wannabe Dunny. Dimly lit, this one might be mistaken as a Dunny dead ringer.  Under the bright lights, this one doesn’t quite fit in. The familiar contour is disrupted with a head sculpt that forcefully blends his iconic bear and KR’s signature platform.  Limited to 1500 pieces, Wannabe arrives on Friday at 7 AM PDT on Kidrobot.com and from your favorite art toy shops.

Kidrobot SDCC Exclusives -- Jeremyville Chia Dunny, Sanrio Plush and Bob’s Burgers

ChiaDunny
Updated: Detailed info on Jeremyville Chia Dunny + pricing.

Kidrobot’s  SDCC 2018 Exclusives offer fun, creative takes on beloved pop culture characters. Yesterday we put this post up with basic information based on an initial preliminary press release. Now with additional information from KR press, here’s a more detailed look at what to expect from the KR booth [#5145].

First up is a Chia-inspired Jeremyville Dunny. Turns out this 5” Dunny is indeed a chia planter. From the shot of the Dunny out of the box, prior to planting, it appears that it features a clever design with an inner terra-cotta element and shiny/glossy exterior – planter and toy all-in-one.  It comes ready to grow with an included seed packet and will retail for $40.

Bob’s Burgers fans will be laser-focused on the SDCC Exclusive Bobcephala Medium Figure which features Bob’s all-in face paint as seen in the popular Brony-inspired The Esquestranauts episode. Don’t be surprised to see this variant of the 7” vinyl ride off into the sunset.

Finally, Kidrobot will be serving up a menu of soft, cuddly toy food featuring Hello Kitty and her Sanrio pals. In a bit of a twist, the kitty fries ($35) are the main course (size wise at least) with individual fries that can removed from the stylish plush container—clever!  Where there are fries, there must be burgers, right?.  KR’s new 2.5” burger charm plush minis ($10) include Hello Kitty, Keroppi, My Melody, Little Twin Stars, Badtz Maru and more.

Brent Nolasco – Dream Weaver in Shadow Gray

P1080512

Brent Nolasco’s Dream Weaver character returns in a new vision.  The new Dream Weaver replaces the figure’s previous squat seated body with a brand-new standing/upright one.  Compared to the OG release back in November of 2016, the new figure has a distinct feel – perhaps less shaman-like and thus more open to the viewer’s interpretation.

The reworked Dream Weaver debuts in a glossy Shadow Gray edition. Cast as five part solid resin figure, the 7” figure is available now for $80 from Brent’s web shop

High Proof Toys – Leafy Green Twertle Type (7.11)

01

High Proof Toys has announced its newest ‘type’/character: Twertle.   The bipedal turtle-like character’s face/head sculpt shares some similarity to the HPT’s Birb Type.  Limited to 10 pieces (2.25”), the debut Leafy Green Twertle—bright green with dark green ‘freckles’—will be released on Wednesday (7.11) at 8 AM PDT for $35 from HPT’s online store

HPT has added several stylish touches to it’s turtle figure, including the signature head, boots, and a swell shell with segments that almost interlock like a puzzle rather than a typical symmetrical geometric design.  Don’t miss out on your chance on bringing this cute pond friend into your home.

Hand-cast and hand-painted in Amanda’s signature style, the 3.75” carded Leia art action figure arrives ready to stand up for herself and others in one of five different t-shirt designs including ‘resist’, ‘not your toy’, ‘I Am the Force’, Death Star-inspired Venus, and a curious blue comb design which plays off of the blue comb accessory—rather than say the expected blaster—that shipped with the vintage 12” Leia action figure.   Limited to 50 pieces (10 in each design), Leia is Not Your Toy will be available at the DKE Toys booth [#5045] for $100 each.

Whatshisname x K.Olin Tribu – Popek Chrome Porcelain

  image3

UK artist Whatshisname has made a name for himself with his playfully rude balloon dog sculptures including the pooping Popek  and the peeing Peepek versions. Art Toy collectors quickly fell in love with vinyl versions of both from Mighty Jaxx.  Now comes a high-end, blingtastic version from K.Olin Tribu.

Limited to just 25 pieces, the Popek Chrome Porcelain (~10.5”) sculpture adds gorgeous chrome plating to the brand’s high quality porcelain casts created in Limoges, France. Beyond the obvious humor and shock value, Whatshiname’s sculptures offer a moment to step outside the expected, to reflect upon the nature of things, possibilities, and with this new gleaming edition, yourself and your surroundings, quite literally, which look back at you from the shiny surface.  Popek Chrome Porcelain is available now from K.Olin Tribu’s ArtAndToys for £816.67 (~$1084).  Each sculpture includes a signed/numbered COA and arrives in a luxurious box.

DKE at SDCC: Five Fabulous Figures Announced So Far

unnamed

DKE Toys has started to reveal their SDCC 2018 lineup featuring top notch art action figures (‘bootleg’ still has a certain charm).  This year they are planning on 24 drops, in addition to their previously announced Space Rat project which combines vintage Salacious Crumb figures with eleven different artist backing boards.  All of these releases will be available from the DKE booth [#5045]

So far they’ve announced five figures—four of which are Lucas inspired.  Let’s start with Stripewok (above) from Little Lazies.  This colorful Ewok homage is sculpted by hand in polymer clay to give it a distinct presence.  Limited to 30 signed and numbered pieces, each figure is sculpted by the artist and will be available for $55.

unnamedunnamed

Speaking of Ewoks, DKE will also release Skipbro Toys’ Ewokalypse Now resin figure ($55, 3.75” scale, 30 s/n pieces) featuring gorgeous card art from David Withers.  For another Star Wars vision, Jim Mahfood brings his over-the-top style with Wookie Hash Pipe: Chewbee ($100, 3.75”, 50 s/n pieces) – the card art is amazing.

unnamedunnamed

Going all in on the art action figure concept, Manly Art’s unique, hand-painted character portraits for Cantina Denizen ($150) brings us back to the gloriously dark and seedy world of gamblers, smugglers and bounty hunters. Each of the 24 signed and numbered glittery green resin figures features a different, hand-painted character portrait on the backing card.  Rounding out the first five, 3001: A Lad In Space ($75, 3.75” scale, 50 s/n pieces) from Lazarus Toys brings us layers upon layers with  David Bowie as Major Tom by way of Kubrick’s space opus. This one is a collective effort designed and painted by Galactic Jerkbag, hand cast by DLLCustoms, with head sculpt by Tyler Ham, card art  from Michael A.C. Rebey and card printing by Kevin Malone.
