Huck Gee Steps Away From Art Toys

Huck Gee has announced that he’s closing his toy studio and is seeking a new adventure in the wide world of design.  We’re pretty sure he’ll land on his feet quickly.  We all know the art toy game isn’t quite what it used to be—rather large understatement—and Huck while extremely popular, wasn’t getting ahead and didn’t feel like he could keep going with a family to look out for.  If you haven’t already, take a few minutes to read his thoughts on the close of his toy journey.

It’s a sad day, Huck is one of the legends of the Art Toy scene and has been almost larger than life for me and many, many collectors for as long as I can remember.  And perhaps more importantly, he’s always been down to earth, ready with a wide smile, and extremely generous.

On the toy side of things—rather bittersweet at the moment—Huck has an *awesome* Robotech project with BAIT.  We’re really excited to see that bad boy drop.  Pretty amazing that he went from his Livery Customs to a full blown licensed production toy, which apparently will become part of the official canon!

As for current projects, Gold Life will continue with Mighty Jaxx and plans are in the works to have Clutter oversee production of the Blanks.

Huck, here’s to finding a new path that brings you much deserved success and prosperity.   Thank you for all the joy and passion you’ve shared with all of us.

Last Zectron x Retroband – Deadly Delivery Returns (8.12)

Deadly Delivery is back after a deep sleep.  Zectron and Retroband’s clever retro-tinged project is an homage to the tiny toys that made children deliriously happy back in the day--from  the tiny yet awesome toys that sold countless boxes of sugary cereal to the plastic wonders hawked in teeny, tiny ads in comic books.

Your next ‘killer mail day’ awaits with two new drops set for Saturday (8.12) at 10 AM PDT from the Deadly Delivery web shop.   Drop one is the first coming of a gnarly soul-stealing troll ($25) from Retroband cast in grey resin complete with removable, deadly dagger.  The troll is backed up by a bubble gum-hued colorway of Zectron’s Necronomicon Pocket Edition ($20) inspired by HP Lovecraft’s Book of the Dead.  Go get ‘em and then wait patiently by the door for your box of treasure to arrive.  Here’s hoping the guys can get back to a regular schedule again, maybe even back to the envisioned monthly drops.

Fools Paradise – Luke, I Am Your Father

Fools Paradise weighs in on the  balance between the dark and the light with Luke, I Am Your Father.  This fun playground revision of the cosmic struggle tips things heavily in Jelly Luke’s favor (flocked!)  with his treat-fueled see saw prowess.  A diminutive, lightweight (and masked) Vader is seemingly outmatched as the script on the base makes clear—‘So hard to go to the Dark Side’. The reverse side chimes in on the light-hearted fun, tongue-in-cheek, with ‘You must have been kissing a fool’.

The latest in a long run of childhood-themed pieces shines with visual flourishes and style throughout from the contrasting character sculpts to the fancy script, sweet gradients and numerous paint details that eclipse ‘good enough’.

Limited to 289 pieces, the mixed media see saw battle (Vinyl, PVC, ABS, Resin) is available for pre-order now for $255 (+ $30 global shipping) directly from Fools Paradise.

Paul Jackson x Mighty Jaxx – Darwins Revenge (8.5)

Mighty Jaxx just released Darwins Revenge, a clever polystone figure from artist Paul Jackson (6”, 100 pcs, $120).  It’s available directly from the Mighty Jaxx web shop.  Based on his 2016 Pearl Jam concert poster (below for reference), the black and gold ape head conceals a secret plot evolving within.  Held in place by magnets, the Ape’s face can be removed to reveal Charles Darwin piloting what we know realize is in actuality an Ape Spaceship! The concept slots nicely into Jackson’s Revenge series of illustrations featuring famous personalities piloting animal-shaped ships in cockpits filled with all manners of gears, switches, and instruments.  Ace stuff!
