Believe it or not, it’s been just over 9 years since Kidrobot released their first Adult Swim minis back in ‘08. Fast forward to 2017, Adult Swim and Kidrobot have put their heads together for an all-new mini series featuring characters from your favorite AS shows including Samurai Jack, Rick & Morty, Venture Brothers, Fish Lab. Robot Chicken, Squidbillies, Too Many Cooks and Robot Unicorn Attack. The minis are the first wave of the upcoming [AS ] x KR capsule collection.
If you’re in LA, you can’t miss the launch event at 3Dretro on Friday, April 28th (6-10 PM). To make the drop super special, the creators of Rick and Morty—Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon–and Robot Chicken—Matt Senreich and Seth Green—will be signing for fans at the event.
Where the ‘08 minis had a for lack of a better term, a ‘mainstream’ design aesthetic, the new series features designs that fit seamlessly into Kidrobot’s universe—oversized heads on small, squat bodies. If you’re a fan of Adult Swim, there’s likely something or several somethings that’ll catch your eye. Me, I’m partial to the Samurai Jack designs. Though it would have been nice to see some Season 5 specific designs (bearded Jack!) since the new episodes were designed specifically for Adult Swim as opposed to the earlier ones which made it to the late-night block only as reruns.
