Fools Paradise has built its reputation in part on reinterpreting pop culture in their dramatic, stylish and sometimes sexy aesthetic. Rather than staying with western stories and characters and in particular the galaxy that Lucas built, Fools Paradise takes a welcome inward turn to the classic Chinese novel, Journey to the West, for their next figure series.
First up is arguably the story’s most popular character, Wu Kong aka the Monkey King. The new hand-painted resin figure envisions the trickster hero as a powerful, muscular warrior complete with iridescent, ‘biochemical’ armor. The 30 cm piece (11.8”) features a base on which Wu Kong stands defiant on Buddha’s head. With a hyper detailed sculpt, strong color design and beautifully executed paint, Fools Paradise’s Monkey King looks to be an excellent release which builds on the strengths of manufacturer Perfect Damage.
Wu Kong is available for pre-order for $299 (includes Global EMS) through December 10th, 2014 directly from Double Fools. The figures will ship in the first quarter of 2015.
