Rolito – ‘The Boy’ for Rolitoboy 10th Anniversary

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen anything on the toy front from French artist Rolito. So we were excited to learn that he’s working on a new sofubi figure, ‘The Boy’ (unpainted test shot) to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Rolitoboy.  Remember those awesome figures produced by Toy2R, way back when?

While there’s not too much info to go on yet, it appears that ‘The Boy’ (in development since at least June 2013), is a new character rather than an interpretation of  his signature character – perhaps inspired by his son who recently turned a year old?  Instead of his classic birds, Rolito has given the boy little gumdrop like companions, two sitting atop the head and at least one as an accessory.  Back in 2013, Rolito mentioned a ‘playset’ so perhaps there will be additional figures as well.  Look for this to drop sometime in June – we’ll be sure to stay on this.

Kidrobot x TMNT Minis, Keychains, and More

Kidrobot’s much discussed (interview) and heavily anticipated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle crossover figures have begun to drop with the release of the six blister-carded Ooze Action GID figures ($9.99/each) featuring the four turtles + Splinter and Shredder.  These stand-alone versions of the mini figures have different deco from the blind box series and of course, glow in the dark.  As you can see in the super swanky press photo above, Kidrobot’s got plenty more turtle action including keychain figs (1st row), blind-box minis (second row), and 7” versions of BeeBop and Rocksteady.

Excitement for the new KR x TMNT toys on social media, seems to show that turtle power runs strong , KR has done a good job with a refined ‘toon feel for these, and at the end of the day it’s about the toys, whether they are licensed or art-based.

Necessaries Toy Foundation – B-Kawz White Edition

Out with another colorway of their B-Kawz figure is Necessaries Toy Foundation! This time it will soon be available in a white colorway. The previous gold release sold out fairly quickly to retailers and we might expect the same from this run. Each figure stands 11” tall and is limited to 250 pieces and will retail $100 each. Find them at your local designer vinyl shop soon including de korner.

B-KAWZ there isn't enough shit at Comicon already
B-KAWZ you are not a very discerning toy collector
B-KAWZ absolutely everyone bastardizes everyone else
B-KAWZ art imitating art is still art, geddit?
Call it what you will, is it a blatant rip-off or a noble tribute?
We at Necessaries Toy Foundation consider it a homage
to two successful and very respected artists.
It is also commentary and parody.
Is it an original idea? We think it is, but only in an esoteric sense.
In fact, it is a very original idea if you are a lateral thinker.
Appropriator? Perpetrator? Instigator?
It is what it is, and I yam what I yam.
B-KAWZ is a metaphor du jour. Merely this and nothing more . . .

Ron English x Toy Art Gallery -- Modzilla Roars to Life

...and the crazy rumors are true. Modzilla, the crazy, wildly ambitious Ron English x Toy Art Gallery oversized sofubi is nearly ready to terrorize toys and collectors everywhere. Carrying a bunny babe, the triceratops headed giant is beset or is that born out of a bunch of bunnies lining his spine and tail. As you can see by comparing these two progress shots, a few photos simply cannot do this detailed, eclectic, sculpture justice. We're looking forward to seeing this beast in person which has been in development for two years and features an almost unheard of 30 piece construction.
