Yosuke Ueno x Mighty Jaxx – Negative Never Again

I’ve enjoyed  the paintings of Japanese artist Yosuke Ueno from the first time I saw one of his vibrantly colorful, kawaii yet mystical paintings at a Gallery 1988 custom show several years ago.  So, it’s a nice surprise to see this unpainted WIP shot of ‘Negative Never Again’, a new art toy in the works from Mighty Jaxx

Based on the painting of the same name (hit the jump), the piece features a dead, yet full of life astronaut wearing a stylish outfit (complete with MJ style sequin gloves). The sculpt is quite detailed and features some differences from the source material – including a different pose, and a reimagined belt.   No word on the medium yet, but I’m assuming resin, based on the shapes.  I’ve always thought the paint application would be the biggest challenging in translating Ueno’s work into 3D – curious to see what the final production pieces look like.  Props to Mighty Jaxx for continuing the fine yet vanishing tradition of making toys based on paintings.
