Itokin Park has been hard at work on a series of three new sofubi figures, two of which were done in collaboration with Amanda Visell and Michelle Valigura. Painted protos of the sofubi trio were shown at this past Saturday’s ‘Fuck Shit Up’ opening. From left to right (above), there’s Amanda’s beaver in his log-mobile, Itokin’s friendly astronaut and Michelle’s Robot Girl. Rather than designing their figures and then passing them to Kazu (Itokin Park) for sculpting and production, both Amanda and Michelle provided basic sketched concepts which Kazu started from and elaborated on. Both the beaver mobile and the Robot Girl figures are truly collaborative projects – blending the artists’ aesthetics together. In addition to co-designing and sculpting the figures, Kazu has also manufactured the toys himself – from making and polishing the waxes, to actually pulling the toys and painting them with masks.
