Penny Taylor – Giant Monster Embryos @ ToyCon UK (4.6)
For all those that love her tiny Monster Embryo resins, Penny Taylor (Taylored Curiosities) has collaborated with Creo Design on the new Giant Monster Embryos. At 6” tall, these dwarf the original design (1.2”) but still retain the adorable beastie DNA. These will be released as a ToyCon UK exclusive. There will be ten in Brilliant Blue for £225 (~ $343) as well as seven customs by Lisa Rae Hansen, Matt ‘Lunartik’ Jones, Ume Toys, Nervis Wrek, Loz Boz, Stitches and Glue and Creo. Plus, JPK will take his turn going big by customizing one live at the show.
Laura Lorén – Miss Mermaid Qiqi
Laura Lorén has recently brought her talents as a fashion designer to the designer toy world with her custom Qiqi toys. Here’s a look at Miss Mermaid which will be shown as part of the ‘Project QiQi’ group show @ the inaugural Toycon UK (4.6). While the elegant piece does feature some custom sculpting, the neatly tailored custom ‘clothing’ is the highlight here. In some ways, this approach is similar to some of the work done by custom 1:6 artists where clothing and gear are an essential part of the presentation. Kudos to Laura for bringing a relatively novel look to the world of custom vinyl toys.
