Reactor-88’s Custom Corner: Betso

Welcome to Reactor-88's Custom Corner. For August we are highlighting long-time toy customizer Betso. He is originally from Las Vegas, but now resides in Salt Lake City, Utah. When his 9 to 5 day is over, Betso burns the midnight oil and concentrates on his paintings and custom toys. Some of you may have first been introduced to his work via the Kidrobot Dunny 2011 Series, but I've known Betso for a long time and it's always a treat to see his work. He cites his influences as animals, cartoons, and graffiti- all three are lovingly meshed into his work. My favorite aspects of his customs are the character's big, bugged out eyes and comical facial expressions. It's easy to  imagine some strange, cartoon animal world where all of them live. I would love to see some original toys from Betso- toy companies I hope you're taking notes. In the meantime, you can keep up with Betso over on Instagram (under betsoart) or his Flickr page.

Brandt Peters x CP x Tomenosuke – Stingy Jack (8.26)

After a year of development and production, Brandt Peters’ Stingy Jack, the first sofubi figure (6.5”) from the Tomenosuke + Circus Posterus collabo toy project, will drop this weekend. Stingy Jack is one mean character. While his outfit might remind you of a clown’s, he’s certainly not about fun and games.  The sculptural detail is quite nice here from the pumpkin shaped head with an awesome edged mouth to Jack’s sweet outfit. For an awesome run-down of the process of bringing Stingy Jack to life,  check out Shinji Nakako’s  excellent WIP article series.

The debut edition features an opaque light pumpkin colored head with a vivid clear purple body with accents in purple, black and lavender.  Limited to 120 pieces, Stingy Jack’s drop, as all future T+CP drops,  will be split into two separate releases (60  pcs each) – one for North America and one for the rest of the world including Asia and Europe.  The USA drop is slated for Sunday, August 26th @ 1 PM PDT from Circusposterus.com for $95.  The Japan (and rest of the world) drop will be through Tomenosuke.com on 8.25 @ Midnight Japan time (Sunday Morning) for 7600 yen.

Koji Harmon’s first Kappa Shonen Release (9.7)
