KAWS:Partners @ KAWSONE (1.27)
KAWSONE will drop the recently revealed KAWS:Partners piece on Friday, January 27th @ 9 AM PST. The first KAWS ‘toy’ drop of 2012 features a likeness of the artist and his signature Companion character in a pose and ‘metallic’ treatment mimicking or paying homage to the iconic statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse @ Disneyland. While the idea is interesting, I would have preferred to see it without the white wooden base or failing that, a darker color in lieu of the white. [Additional image w/box via Hypebeast]

Kaws really shouldn't compare himself to Walt Disney. Walt was a global icon who changed entertainment history. Kaws takes what other people had created and puts bones on them-not much of a comparison there. I can see the appeal with his art to some, but this is such a blatant rip-off with a pathetic attempt at commentary. A sad night's work.
