Backstory

"Reginald’s Rather Rolocking Rashers raised and processed the vast majority of England’s swine, producing traditional products in a market saturated with artificial protein sequencers.

Food had long since ceased to be a global issue; the vast excesses of power available to mankind and exceptional advances in Hypergenetics and Femtotechnology allowed exceptionally nutritious smart-food to be produced on command, in front of your eyes, for next to nothing. With such a range of food never before experienced, that never went off, evaporated after 48 hours and actively improved health and extended lifespan, anything else seemed archaic and downright dangerous!

Reginald Fitzpatrick remembered the old ways and longed for a more traditional, natural source of food. The chance discovery of the Penarth Ganol, an automated inter-planetary supply shuttle, lost centuries before to the frozen depths of space, was just what he needed. An explosion in it’s antiquated ion drive had thrown it off course and exposed it’s contents to the sterile vacuum, preserving every last pack of meat, fruit and veg perfectly. Regarded as worthless to the salvage crew that happened upon it, Reginald was able to acquire the entire relic easily and donated the craft to the Carmarthen Space Flight Museum as part of the aquisition. The stock was what he wanted!

In particular, he was fascinated by a product called "Bacon". The very thought of these slices of cured animal carcass was enough to initially repulse most who heard of it, but as a keen study of culinary history, Reg was aware of it’s significant cultural importance. One taste was enough to convince him; he must bring about a revival! Making cunning use of his local pet re-cloner, every single sample from the ship was regenerated into the animal it came from, in total, almost 6000 head of livestock, enough to refill the gene pools of a number of long lost breeds.

Although dietarily unnecessary and argued by critics to be grotesque and downright harmful, Reginald’s traditionally made Bacon was a hit with the population, who decided, with all the sequences at their disposal, that nothing tasted quite like the real thing. Extending his empire, Reg soon had a veritable army of robots working alongside his employees, enough to warrant their own personalized "Rasher" paint-job, compete with golden eyes. Be it maintenance Sprogs to keep his free range fences tidy, Observation Drones to watch his pigs 24/7 or postal Sprogs to deliver orders, every task was robotically handled, except for one… making the Bacon. Some things are better done by hand Reg reckoned, it just tastes better."
