Color Ink Book celebrated its third anniversary of artful coloring with the energetic opening of ‘Shades of Ray’ group show on Friday evening  @ WWA Gallery in Culver City.  Artists including Luke Chueh, Andrew Bell, Sket One, Shane Jessup, J*RyuRitzy Periwinkle, and more  offered up new visions of Color Ink Book’s mascot Rayola, customs of wood Rayola blanks and black + white OG art.   The show also featured OG art created for and published in Color Ink Book including several reasonably priced Luke Chueh  ink pieces.

The Rayola wood form proved to be quite versatile both as a  for painted pieces by Luke Chueh and CJ Metzger as well as the starting point for the exploration of 3D possibilities including DrilOne’s bomb and J*Ryu’s sublime and intricate sculptural piece.  While the pre-opening coverage understandably  focused on the customs, the show’s wall of small b+w works rounded out a satisfying exhibition with 2D and 3D  pieces comfortably complimenting one another. This is a great opportunity to pick up affordable drawings from of your favorite artists – check the official show preview.

In addition to the  large dose of Rayola inspired art, the show’s  large double-sided sketch wall offered the artistic and bold among the large crowd the opportunity to take an active role in the celebration by sketching and doodling for all to see and enjoy.
