Uglydoll Goes Hollywood
David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim’s Uglydoll empire continues to grow. If all goes according to plan, you can expect an animated Uglydoll movie to hit the cineplex down the line. Illumination entertainment (Despicable Me & Hop) has acquired the movie rights and will work with Universal on the project. Larry Stuckey of Little Fockers fame (infamy?) will pen the script based on David and Sun-Min’s stories.
Here’s hoping this turns out well. Personally, I feel the appeal of the Uglydolls is their quirky, signature visual appearance and less about the stories behind them – though I could be in the minority there. Given the credentials involved, the animation should be top-flight, will the story hold its own ? That the writer was responsible for the widely panned Little Fockers is a bit troubling.
