First Look: Jesse Hernandez’s Mictlan Painted Test Shot

3

SDCC always brings the goods. In addition to new releases, it’s also a great place to get a peek at what’s “next”, like Jesse Hernandez’s upcoming Mictlan figure from Kuso Vinyl.  Here’s a first look at the bad ass final painted test shot.  From the bright colors to the crisp design, this one looks very sharp.  The character exudes power with a hint of grumpiness.  Mictlan crosses over nicely between toy and art.  In fact,  the Oakland Museum will feature the original Mictlan painting  in the advertising and branding for it’s upcoming Day of the Dead “Vivo” Exhibition opening on October 6th 2010.   Jesse will be creating a large installation along with Cristianne Dugan Cuadra.

While you wait for the release be sure to drop by the DKE booth (Thursday-Saturday) to get an up close look at Mictlan.  He’ll also be looking over Jesse’s shoulder during his signing on Friday (3-4 PM) @ the Dragatomi Booth (#3848).

Huck Gee – Los Angeles De La Muerte

DSC03772

Huck Gee continues to push his own limits with each new custom release.  His latest nearly instantly sold out custom, Los Angeles De La Muerte brings with it the story of the Taurenos Monarchy of Naoya 13 whom the Angeles are bred/designed to protect without hesitation or question.   Limited to 10 pieces, this new figure walks the cute / bad ass line skillfully.  With the helmet on, this fierce bodyguard has a slightly unsettling appearance, with it off, she is super cute.   Continuing his recent emphasis on custom sculpted elements, Huck has outfitted the Angeles with custom helmets, gear, and weaponry.  One step closer to a 100% original HG creation.

Proto Monday // Yoskay Yamamoto’s New Figure

lion_proto

Today we’re happy to bring you a  very special edition of Proto Monday featuring the first look at Yoskay Yamamoto’s upcoming figure from Munky King.  Shown here as a work-in-progress prototype, the as-yet unnamed figure is based on his ‘Screaming for the Sunrise’ painting.  Standing 6” tall, this mythical lion is incredibly detailed particularly with respect to the open mouth and the sculpted flames.  While the sculpt looks great in the photo, it’s even more impressive in person – your gaze just locks in to the beauty of the piece.   This new figure is an excellent follow-up to Yoskay’s smash-hit Koibito and may even surpass it in terms of raising expectations for art toys.  To accompany the display of the new figure’s prototype in their booth, Munky King will release a 6” x 8” Screaming for the Sunrise print (150 pcs).
