Brent Nolasco for 5-Eyed Dragon: Concept Study # 1

Five Eye Dragon Custom By Brent Nolasco No.04

For his latest custom simply titled Concept Study #1, Brent Nolasco has created a gnalry fusion of several well-known toys melded together with his considerable imagination and the occasional custom sculpted element.  Perhaps akin to a sketch, Nolasco has chosen to forgo paint so as to expose the structural form and concept of the piece.  Very interesting.

Concept Study #1 will be exhibited at the  5-Eyed Dragon group show opening On Saturday, April 10th @ Dragatomi in Sacramento.  The show will feature paintings and customs from SouthernDrawl, Betso, Dril1, Leecifer, and Brent Nolasco.

Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters – Living Between Worlds (4.2)

Evite

Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters will open their most in-depth collaborative show to-date, Living Between Worlds, on Friday April 2nd (6-10 PM) @ Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles.  This collision of the two artists’ worlds will feature new sculpture and paintings on canvas, wood and found objects.  The pair will also pre-release an exclusive toy and print from their art brand, Circus Posterus.

A picture is worth a thousand words.  Or at least a few sentences of speculation and just a bit of drooling.  The 17” Elizabeth looks great as does the Skelve.  The clear ?resin? skull casts are pretty sweet as well.

Seen: David Flores – 18 x 24

 1_DSC_0557-Edit-2
David Flores opened his 18 x 24 solo at Munky King Melrose on Thursday (3.11.10).  As the title suggests, this new body of work revolves around a series of 18 x 24 black + white pieces celebrating beloved cartoon characters in Dave’s unmistakable signature ‘stained glass’ style.   Several paintings were offered including a large Thumper piece and an even larger Chief Wiggum channeling his very best ‘Dirty Harry’ impersonation.

The show also offers a good overview of Flores’ range of work from his Heidi Klum piece to his recent bling-tastic releases with HK-based fashion brand Chouette.  No matter how many times we see his Swarovski crystal covered Medicom VCD, we still covet it.

In addition to the original artwork, Munky King has an exclusive Flores print featuring Kate Moss (see it after the jump)
