Amanda Visell – Primeval Love (4.9)
It’s been a little while since Amanda Visell’s last solo (about 15 months) and we’re pretty sure many of you have been wondering when the next one would be. The answer is Saturday April 9th with a one night engagement for Primeval Love at the Natural History Museum in LA.
Amanda’s been painting up a storm for quite some time in prep for this show. As you can tell from the flier image, she’s evolved her style considerably. The result is a collection of work that is in my opinion more ‘painterly’ and without a doubt more personal. Amanda’s taking the challenge of moving forward stylistically head on. This feels like a turning point in her career – not to be missed.

MINDstyle x Disney – Alien Invasion
Ooooooo the CLAW… Probably one of my favorite moments from Pixar’s Toy Story. It neatly captures the childhood wonder that runs through the entire film. Now, MINDstyle and Disney are putting the focus back on the lovable three-eyed aliens with the Alien Invasion project slated for May/June 2010. The question is, just what kind of Invasion are we talking about ?
If we stare at the flier for clues, the gray unpainted aliens seem to suggest DIY figures. So our guess is a high-profile custom show. Time will tell.
MINDstyle x Kenny Scharf – Jetsons x Flinstones Concept Art
MINDstyle has unveiled concept art for two upcoming projects with NYC artist Kenny Scharf. Drawn from Scharf’s recent LA show at Honor Fraser, both projects are translations of original paintings mixing the worlds of the Jetsons and Flinstones. In Scharf’s vision Fred and George have switched domestic situations and eras.
Based on the concept art, both art toy projects will mirror the paintings right down to the flying saucer and prehistoric pedi-car. We’re assuming the characters will be fixed in the vehicles, but we’ll check on that point [via the MINDstyle blog]

Nebulon5 – A Trio of Custom Koibitos (3.3)
Neublon5 has created three customs of Yoskay Yamamoto’s Koibito figure – Bluegill Waterbelly, Rainbow Sherbert and Violets are Blue (left to right, above). Each custom has a pleasing abstract paint application which compliments the figure’s shape and textures. While these have bold, vivid colors, they fit the ‘fish’ test – call ‘emsurrealistic koi. These drop Wednesday, March 3rd at an unspecified time from Nebulon5’s site.
Proto Monday >> Bubi Au Yeung’s Ren (5”)
Treeson fans, this one’s for you. Today on Proto Monday we’re bringing you an exclusive first look at the sculpt for the upcoming 5” version of Bubi Au Yeung’s Ren, Treeson’s human friend, from Crazy Label. Ren was originally featured (below) in the Treeson & Other Stories minis released last summer. Due for a stand-alone release this summer, the larger Ren features a more detailed sculpt which includes articulated arms. The inclusion of a bubble-funs in the above sculpt photo suggests that Ren will follow Treeson’s (8”) fondness of the bubble-funs.
