Josh (Shag) Agle has built a remarkable career and following on the strength of his original paintings depicting a relaxed, oh-so-cool, SoCal lifestyle of a seemingly yesteryear. While not a stranger to 3-dimensional art, a strong translation of his aesthetic into the vinyl art toy medium has been noticeably lacking.
Until now. The hip and mobile Shriner vinyl figure from Squibbles Ink + Rotofugi is quintessential Shag from the character to the car culture theme to the pursuit of hedonistic excess. The medium-sized figure (6.25” tall, 7.25” long) features three-points of articulation (wrist and shoulder of beverage arm, neck/head).
Shriner will make its debut with the initial “Gallery Prototype Edition” (100 pcs, $75) dropping @ the opening of Shag’s Red Star, Black Eye exhibition (2.19) @ the Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago. This first edition will be followed by a standard edition and at least three other editions to be released in conduction with special events throughout 2010.
