Plaseebo – Death Panzer Custom

death_panzer_d.JPG

Bob Conge of Plaseebo revisits the ugly reality of war with his latest one-off project – the Death Panzer Custom (8” long, 5.5” high). Built from hand-cast resin and plastic, this one features the bloodied head sculpt of Conge’s previously released uber limited War figure.   Keeping with his dazzling tradition, Conge has placed a color-changing LED in WAR’s head.  The unsettling mash-up marriage of the WAR head with the tank body dissuades us from being seduced by the often times slick and sterile presentation of war. A visceral  reminder that war is an abomination.

DCon 09: Overton Loyd -- Bill Luminutty Vinyl

1-DSC_2834

Founded and led by sculptor Dave Kawano , U1 Toy Arts entered the art toy scene with the Boris mini-fig from Nathan Hamill and is set to release several new products in the not so distant future.  One of these is Overton Loyd's Bill Luminutty vinyl shown in unpainted proto form at U1's DesignerCon booth. Overton is best known for his design and artwork done for George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic.  His 'Bill Luminutty' character has lived outside the limelight until its recent appropriation and use by street artists.  This is Iluminati delivered with an urban funkadelic flair.  We're not sure if there's a coming new world order, but the figure looks pretty cool.

DCon 09: Angry Woebots – Painted Panda King Proto

2-DSC_2887

Ever since we revealed the upcoming Panda King resin figure by Angry Woebots on Proto Monday, we’ve been looking forward to a look at the painted proto.  The wait is over.  Silent Stage Gallery proudly gave DesignerCon attendees a  sweet first-look at the hand-painted goodness waiting in the wings.  The first release (ed. of 60) will be fully hand-painted by Woebots himself and retail for $250.  Judging by the high level of demand and interest, these will go quickly.  Angry Woebots's first original figure has been a long time coming.  It's been worth the wait.

In addition to Panda King, Silent Stage showed off a Woebots Panda head resin piece.  Done as a fun test, this one drew alot of interest and just might end up as a product.  We'll have to wait and see.  Check it after the jump.

DCon ‘09: Doktor A MAD*L

1-DSC_2800

Lift made the trip out west to Pasadena for their first showing at DesignerCon (formerly VTN).  Their booth featured Doktor A including a sampling of pieces from his Freak Mechanique show currently showing at the boutique.  It was also the official debut of Lift’s exclusive Doktor A MAD*L.  Due to a FedEx mixup, only a small advanced supply of pieces were available at Lift’s booth.  As you might expect, they quickly sold out. No worries -- LiFT is offering a pre-order on their site for $42.00.  The expected ship date is 11.24.09.

DesignerCon 09’s successful showing on Saturday signaled promising growth and maturation of the SoCal show previously known as Vinyl Toy Network.  We’re going to start our coverage with some focused highlights now and broaden out in a few hours. Several new figures were revealed at the show including a nice  Muttpop x Jamungo crossover.

Muttpop revealed their chase Red Demon BUD which is featured in the just released BUDS Series 3 from Jamungo.  The cool cat looks sharp ‘n cute  as a Blow Up Doll.
