‘Mini Me’ featuring 3D Self Expressions (11.1)

Keshet Levi - angie

Mini Me, a show featuring 22 expressions of persona and self-perception as rapid printed 3D figures, opens on November 1st @ Urbanix Gallery in Tel Aviv, Israel. Eilon Armon, an Industrial Design professor at the Holon Institue of Technology,  collaborated with Urbanix and Objet, a leader in 3D printing tech, to create a novel art toy project.

Twenty-two third-year design students were asked to design a character that embodies or represents him/her.  Various  conceptual approaches were taken in creating a tangible representation of each students’ identity — from personal experiences to physical characteristics.  Each student created a 3D representation of his/her character which was then output using OJBET’s 3D printing technology.

As you can see, the results are quite impressive.  We’re intrigued by the show and the concept behind it.  It’s important to keep expanding the pool of talent interested in creating designer/art toys.  Such efforts increase the range of aesthetics and push things forward.
