Michael Lau opened his historic Gardener 10th show last night with a VIP event presented by MINDstyle which drew artists, industry heads, and distinguished collectors to De La Barracuda. The focal point of the event was of course the awe inspiring display of the 109 Gardeners, the first time they’ve been shown in the USA. The inspired urban stylings and hyper detail of the 12″ one off figures turns even the most experienced collectors into smiling fanboys — mouth agape, eyes wide. Nothing beats face to face experience. Michael’s original art in the forms of large-scale paintings as well as a collection of conceptual sketches offered a nice companion to the staggered display of Gardeners.
In celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Gardeners, Michael Lau has created a collection of special 10th products including the four new toys(LA Fat, SlamxHype, Hundreds, and De La Barracuda figure), a brand-new full color book, the M.L.M.D watch set, and the heavily anticipated Michael Lau x Nike SB shoe + toy set. The wood-grain editions of three of the figures, the book, and the watch set were available during the VIP event.
The evening ended with a wild, music blaring ride on the Red Bull Party bus to the afterparty which went down at Winstons.
