Ever since the first Paw! monkey-rabbit possessing incredible strength and dexterity, Coarsetoys has been without-a-doubt one of the hottest designer toy brands around. Rumors of a new Paw! have swirled with some faithless onlookers wondering if the next edition could live up to the rare air standards of the previous releases. A resounding YES. Mark Landwehr (vp interview) and the Coarse crew just let the rabbit out of the bag or is that tree?
My first reaction to the pics of Paw! Milky Bliss (12”) ? OMG (does that out me as a fan boy, rather than impartial toy journalist?). According to his origin backstory, this Paw! grew to maturation on a fruit tree until the fateful date he burst free from his suspended shell. The deceptively simple new edition features a white body with pink and blue accents – easy to describe, but the effect is breathtaking. Here’s a massive, mean beast in pastel Easter colors – brilliant stuff. Coarse fans will recognize this color scheme (with a more intense blue this time around)from the upright Paw! resin sculpture from the NOOP show @ Rotofugi. While we can’t quite make it out, it looks like Milky Bliss has grey spots on his massive back intermixed with the COARSE letters.
As if the toy wasn’t enough – the packaging also lives up to Mark’s high standards. For Milky Bliss, he’s changed it up entirely – gone are the highly textured cardboard boxes filled with those amazing COARSE letter ‘peanuts’. Instead we get a ‘heavenly banana carrot box’ in the same white, pink and blue of the figure, complete with a felt leaf coming through the middle of the box’s stop. The much-sought after package is held together not with a box flap, or a piece of circular tape, but a pink (of course) elastic band emblazoned with “Coarse”. The new Paw! lies in side not in a plastic clear blister, but a bed of shaped pink foam… the devil is in the details, and Coarse comes up aces again.
Do I seem excited? Nah…. it’s your imagination. Ok, the nitty gritty details. Paw! Milky Bliss goes on sale online next Monday, June 29th @ 7 PM PDT from Coarse HKG for $160 (a premium product, well worth every penny). It will also be available at the Pixie booth at this year’s TTF and from Pixie’s online store. Based on the teaser that’s going around, we also believe there’s going to be a camo-style JAWS figure released by Pixie at TTF as well. Got your plane tickets for Taipei yet ?
