Amanda Visell – Vampire Pink Elephant + Belt Buckle (10.30)
Halloween is just around the corner and that means Trick or Treat and two Amanda Visell releases. First up for all you vinyl fiends (that’s pretty much everyone reading this!), there’s the Vampire Pink Elephant, with a blood thirsty Drunky McSkunky, from Munky King. This one stands 6" tall, is limited to 400 pieces and will retail for $70.
In addition, because you can’t live on toys alone and have to go out into the world (well, at least it’s nice to do so) – there’s the clever Pink Elephant Belt Buckle from Switcheroo and Fully Visual for $65. Flip it over and what do you get -- a blank back side ? Not! You get a designed back complete with handy-dandy (sort of...) bottle opener (with hilarious label), Amanda's engraved branding, and a shout-out to eco conscious collectors. That's our long way of saying we think the back looks pretty cool. As an early 'phant bonus, the first 50 pieces come with a signed print. Woo Hoo! (It's contagious).
Both drop on October 30th with a signing from 7-8 at Munky King Melrose right before the Suckadelic Custom Art Show. The Vampire Pink Elephant will be available in very limited quantities at the show -- so if you want one that night, get there early. If not, you just might have to make do with a Tootsie Roll instead.

One Up Exclusive Inc Version 2 GID
One Up will release an exclusive Version 2 of Instinctoy’s black Inc Bear with GID accents designed by Hiroto Ohkubo on Saturday October 25 @ Noon in their fourth floor location in Nakano Broadway. The drop will close out a mini Instinctoy exhibition (flier) which starts this Friday, October 17th.
Limited to 54 pieces, this edition is similar to the first original black Inc figure except that the nails, tusk, eyes, and monster on the back (white portions) are GID for a stylish look in the pitch black darkness. The figure stands 21.5 cm high (~ 8.2 inches), is made in china, and will be available for 7800 yen (~ $76 USD).
If you’re wondering about what at first glance seems to be a curious perhaps even odd character design (i.e. why does he have two faces – front and rear?), it’s explained in the back-story. On a seemingly peaceful day, a black liquid ooze creature happens upon an unsuspecting bear whom he quickly infects becoming one with his victim. The bear’s appearance morphs to resemble that of his attacker – from the oozing skin and limbs to his now bloodshot glowing eyes. And what of the attacker ? He can clearly be seen on the bear’s hind quarters boasting a wide and satisfied grin. Enjoy the CG animation below which does a great job of telling Inc’s origin.
While there are some similarities in the design of Inc and an increasingly popular Japanese designer, we can say based on first hand-experience that the concept, packaging, and execution of Inc are all top-rate. Taken on it's own this is an excellent figure – one that has perhaps not got the attention its due. Click through for more pics of the GID version.

We Kill You – Four New Figures In October: Gonakdet
It is week three of We Kill You’s October figure release. Which means the third figure from the set of three. WKY presents Gonakdet fish/lizard man with powers similar to Poseidon. Just like the other releases, he will up for grabs this coming Friday via WKY’s Webstore. That leaves only one more week til’ the last figure is revealed, and the special Halloween set becomes available.
The 411 on Gonakdet: Many years ago, G onakedet was a fisherman. In his fishing town, the stories of a lizard like sea creature that ate lost fishing boats, was a common tale. This creature was said to posses the power to control the sea. One day while out to sea alone in his boat, Gonakedet was attacked by this sea creature and in a fierce battle managed to take its life. Convinced that this creature possessed this great power to control the sea, he gutted it and wore its skin as an outfit. Over time, the skin of the creature and his flesh bonded leaving him stuck as the creature for ever.
Nathan Jurevicius - Monkey King Earth Edition

Munky King has just dropped the main Earth Edition of Nathan Jurevicius's Monkey King figure. Based on an animation done awhile back for MTV Asia, Nathan's design brings a slightly cartoony approach to the legendary mythical Chinese warrior/prankster. Staying true to the legend, Monkey King comes with a removable cloud base (nifty surface treatment), staff, and crown. The face design conveys a strong personality and works really well with this color edition.
The highlight feature of the figure is his dexterity -- thanks to the bendy tail, he can wield his staff in numerous positions - out in front, above his head (2-handed) and partially behind his back (1 hand and tail). Great stuff.
Standing 8" tall, Monkey King Earth edition is limited to 600 pieces, retails for a suggested $55 and is available at your favorite designer toy store.

NVC Crew - BIG*L
As we get closer to the opening of the MAD*L Citizens show which is October 25th @ LIFT in the Detroit area, expect to see lots of previews of custom 10" pieces. Some of these are excellent pieces from the best in the biz. NVC Crew's tribute to the Notorious B.I.G -- BIG*L combines Bao and Spive's trademark hand-sculpting with a faux TV head featuring wood panel trimmed, fitted, shaped, applied and polished by Spive.
Instead of going for a wood "effect", NVC went full bore and used real wood ;-) The knobs come from NVC's vintage knob collection and helped to add to the illusion of a real TV set.
The sculpting is NVC at it's best with nice details including the Timberland's, hoodie, and clever use of the MADL form to deliver a casual hands-in-the-pocket pose. Finally, NVC flexes it's painting chops with a portrait of the late rapper.
If you're in the Detroit area don't miss MAD*L Citizens on 10.25 @ LIFT.
