Travis Lampe’s Accidental Mishap Resin

Lampetease1

For a little while now Gallery 1988 co-founder Jensen Karp  has been dropping hints here and there about the gallery’s first limited-edition resin art figure.  So we’re stoked to  exclusively reveal (or tease…) Travis Lampe’s hand-painted  Accidental Mishap figure which will debut at his Lumber Smack solo opening on September 16th @ Gallery 1988: LA.   From the tempting slivers we have here this is intriguing  – just what kind of animal is that ? The shattered rainbow looks great and no doubt plays into the retelling of the unfortunate incident – see it after the jump.

This figure as well as several other top-quality resin art toys was sculpted and produced by Julie B. of Pretty in Plastic. While we won’t go so far as to  say resin is the “new vinyl”, it definitely is becoming an increasingly popular medium for very limited-edition art figures.  You could call this new breed of resins  “art multiples” but  they seem like an offshoot of the art toy genre.    Look for more info on this one right here in the coming days.
