In honor of Charles Leslie Walker the Distinction Gallery in Escondido, San Diego has put together a benefit group show to raise money for the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBD) which was a disease Charles unfortunately had been diagnosed with. More info on LBD from Distinction follows:
Lewy body dementia (LBD) is a progressive brain disease and the second gleading cause of degenerative dementia in the elderly. Lewy bodies are abnormal proteins deposits that disrupt the brain’s normal function. In the brain stem, the proteins deplete the neurotransmitter dopamine, causing Parkinsonian–like symptoms. In other parts of the brain including the cerebral cortex, acetylcholine is depleted, causing disruption of perception, thinking, and behavior.
LBD onset is typically between the ages of 50 and 85. The symptoms, medicine management, and duration of LBD vary greatly from person to person, but the average duration is 5 to 7 years. No definitive treatment or cure for Lewy body dementia has been discovered.
The opening reception will be held on Saturday, August 9th from 6-11 PM and the exhibit will be open until September 6th. On opening night there will be a $10 entry free which will be used as a donation along with all the proceeds from the pieces sold from the show. All pieces were designed on 5x7inch wood panels. All of the donated pieces will be up for grabs by silent auction through the gallery, bids online, and on the phone. Bidding begins from August 5th until August 9th at 10 PM. Participating artists include: Camilla d’Errico, Anthony Ausgang, Patrick Fatica, Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki, Caia Koopman, Tara McPherson, Matt Dangler, Tessar Lo, Yoko d’Holbachie & tons more.
