Syndrome - “I Learned it by Watching You” + Syn001 Figure

ilibwy_flyer

Motion design studio Syndrome, comprised of Micah Hancock, James Larese and Mars Sandoval, will present “I Learned it By Watching You” at Crewest Gallery. Opening on September 6th,the show considers the effects of mass media on the public.  If you’re old enough you’ll remember the Regan-era PSA of the same title.   The three artists will show works created with a mixed media process bridging traditional art forms with digital tools.

Additionally, Syndrome will release their first limited-edition toy, Syn001.  This is the first of several planned toys based on this show.  As you can see in the renders Syn001 takes the ubiquitous television and melds it with character-based elements for an abstract yet familiar design open to interpretation.  Syn001 offers a different vibe from the status quo.   After the jump, a close up render of the toy.

I am 8-bit: Hidden Art in LA

@@IMG_0905

For this year’s I am 8-bit, show curators Jon Gibson and Derek Puleston, are hoping to expand the concept of the art show beyond the  pristine white walls of the  gallery.  As such, they’ve invited the MyTarPit crew to fly in from Ireland to spread miniature painted canvases across Los Angeles.

So as you walk through our beautifully diverse city check out the lampposts, buildings, trees and signs and you just might spot a piece of art ready for the taking.  Ditch the iPod, put away the Crackberry, and really look around next time you’re out and about.

While MyTarPit is the ring leader, he’s  not a lone wolf this time around.  Joe Ledbetter, Space Invader, Jim Mahfood, Gabe Swarr, The Chung, Tony Mora and others have joined in on the street beautification project.

As if free art wasn’t enough, anyone who finds a painting and brings it to the opening of I am 8-bit (8.14.08) will score a bunch of loot for their treasure-hunting skills :

  • VIP Access (enter at 7 PM instead of 8 PM)
  • Exclusive I am 8-bit Tees
  • Hand-silkscreened, signed and numbered show poster by Jim Mahfood
  • “I am 8-bit” book by Chronicle Books
  • A complete set of I am 8-bit fliers + more

If you find one of the mini-canvases, drop a line to show[at]iam8bit[dot]net.  After the jump, a couple of hiding places revealed (kinda, sort of).  Be sure not to miss the opening of I am 8-bit this Thursday (8.14.08) from 8 PM to Midnight at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery.
