Seen: Opening of Mister Cartoon & Estevan Oriol’s Last Laugh

Yesterday was a day of openings and firsts.  Upper Playground opened their LA location.  Directly next door, Mister Cartoon and Estevan Oriol opened Last Laugh featuring two interconnected spaces offering merchandise from each artist.  As far as we know, Last Laugh is the first retail space for both LA artists — a long time coming.  Each has made a lasting impression on LA and perhaps more importantly brought their visions of the city of angels to a wide audience.

From the  Last Laugh front-window display featuring Mister Cartoon’s beautifully airbrushed orange tribute bike to the retro themed interior, the space is as much a representation of the celebrated tattoo artist’s body of work as it is a retail space offering Tees, shoes and more.  Speaking of tattoos — there is a tattoo shop in the rear of the space.  Jack Rudy will hold down the fort as a guest artist while the man himself will occasionally tattoo in the shop.

The store features several cool displays from the car-interior inspired red crushed-velvet wall of kicks with six-embedded speakers + a tuner to an inspired clown face display featuring his Lost Angel figures (one for each eye), a red plastic case featuring his Sidekick) and a clear recantgular case at the bottom with his designer Nikes (AF1’s, Cortez’s).

If you hang a right directly before the chrome retro cash register (no digital here man), you’ll enter Estevan Oriol’s space — done in all back with his numerous photos along each wall and rows of shirts for sale in the middle. There’s also an lcd projector displaying a documentary/interview with the celebrated urban photographer.   You could buy it online… but why not go and check it all out in person ?

We know… you want pics.  Click through for plenty.
