Seen: Yoskay Yamamoto's Upside of Down
Yoskay Yamamoto opened his first-ever solo, the Upside of Down, last night (5.3.08) at Project: in Culver City. We've been fans of Yoskay's work for awhile now and we're happy to say this is his best work by far. Collectors agree as the show is nearly sold out. Yoskay impresses with the several styles and themes on display in his work -- from his whimsical characters (often wearing fish-heads) to vivid almost neon spiritual creatures to serene naturescapes. In addition to the original works, Project: offered a signed and numbered giclee print of Nightmare of Day Dreamer (25 pieces, $100 each).
The show marked the first glimpse of hand-painted color protos of Yoskay's new Koibito figure from Munky King. Shown were the standard (white/red) and Project: (with with a splash of silver on the eye) colorways. Looking good -- the red detailing on the tail of the standard edition is striking. Click through for pics of Yoskay's art and toys.
