Amanda Visell’s custom 20" Gnome Eating Bat Munny (Kidrobot) features one happy (and full) bat and a sad (eaten) Gnome. it shows off her construction skills as well as her painting talent. This custom seems to bring Amanda’s Gnome vs. Ants painting to life. This excellent piece will be auctioned by the celebrated Christie’s auction house (New York) in June (details to come).
The fairly recent trend of placing designer toys (production and custom) in high-end art auctions seems to be growing and certainly worth watching. Will auctions serve as one way of establishing these toys as art objects within the larger art community ? We’ll see.
