Brent Nolasco - Broken Hearts and Stolen Souls

Brent Nolasco will open his Broken Hearts and Stolen Souls solo on Friday, June 13th [6-9 PM] @ myplasticheartnyc.  The show will feature original paintings and several customs from one of the most talented rising artists in the designer toy scene.   Keep watching VP for previews of the pieces -- including some dope customs.   '08 is the year Brent starts to turn the corner -- he's got an upcoming turn on Nemo's Haremungous from ToyQube and maybe a few other things up his sleeve as well.

Close Up: Kevin Husky's Icy Bunny from Urabbit

From Husky Kevin,  known for his blue-eyed mini dog toys,  comes the newest member of the Husky Kingdom in 3D form. Standing at 7” tall and limited to 500 pieces, Icy Bunny is the first collaboration between Husky Kevin and newly formed Urabbit, a lifestyle division of Bubu.

If you have a sweet tooth, prepare to kowtow to Ice Bunny, for she is the maker of the best ice cream in Husky Kingdom. Plain and simple in design, this cold treat queen comes with a removable top and when popped reveals a heart shaped ears. She also has a set of pink cutie slippers, perfect for this vinyl diva.

This toy is about uniform cuteness with each element  equally designed and appropriately placed. A set of pink twinkle stars are planted next to each eye on the same level, along with three exact pink strokes on her cheeks resembling blushing. Two tiny scoops of ice cream sit on each side of the bunny’s “ears”. Nothing is out of place. What I find most interesting is the splash of yellow at the toy’s feet. Hummm, yellow in color, beneath the belt….could it be in the heat of things, while the ice cream was melting, our bunny friend had an accident?

The vinyl feels soft to the touch, a slight squeeze brings out a sniff of vinyl scent. If you remove the heart shaped ears, the two tiny ice cream cones, the pink slippers and  the soft serve top, Ice Bunny actually comes with six displayable accessories. Speaking of which, how about future interchangelabe  accessories? We girls just love our accessories. Screw the ice cream cones ;-)  How about a heart-shaped bunny ears pendant??  Icy Bunny is coming soon to a toy store near you! For wholesale inquiries please contact DKE Toys.

Tristan Eaton's Custom Mini Cooper for Garage 419

Matt Farah of automotive video mag Garage 419 recently asked Tristan Eaton (Dunny Creator and all around bad-ass designer)  of Thunderdog Studios to trick out a Mini Cooper. The project was inspired by the BMW Art Project which turned out beautiful and amazingly expensive custom cars from 1975 to 1989.   Tris obliged with a custom-designed reflective vinyl wrap.  While it looks pretty sweet in daylight, it's crazy at night with the light bouncing off the graphics.   Now that's a custom! [Pics: garage419.com].  Just to really push this project over the top -- Garage 419 put together a great video detailing the process and the finished Mini Cooper.

Kathie Olivas - ATP Dolbee

Kathie Olivas designed a Dolbee figure for last week's ATP Vs. Pitchfork event @ Pontin's Camber Sands. Clutter was there and put up a nice writeup on their blog along with loads of pics on their Flickr.   This is the second release of the Dolbee retro cassette toy created by MAD for Clownshoes, ATP's toy company.

Kathie did a great job with the design -- Siamese Misery Children.  The white/black separation really does give the illusion of two separate heads.  Inspired.  Next up on the Dolbee: Michael Michael Motorcycle for the Explosions ATP event @ Butlins Minehead this weekend (5.16 - 5.18).
