tokidoki - Skeletrino and Skeletrina

STRANGEco has announced Skeletrino and Skeletrina, two new mini (1.5") vinyl figures from tokidoki.  Wielding sickle shaped tails, the two felines are the pets of the Grim Reapers,  Adios and Ciao Ciao.  Skeltrino brings a classic look with his streamlined jet-black design. With a dash of couture,  Skeletrina charms with  a purple body and gold  design showered in luxury details  - barrett, anklet, and tail decoration.    The tokidoki felines  are  due in June 2008 for $10.99 each.    Click through for more pics.

Joe Ledbetter -- Hand-painted Smash

In the process of creating  Smash  for Toy2R, Joe Ledbetter created a full-body paint master.  He also hand-painted the heads of three additional blank Smash figures (and just the head) so the factory could work on the three different facial expressions.  Here is a look at the Candy Smash head paint master,  courtesy of its owner, Henry Loh.   Talk about one-of-a-kind collectible.  Click through for more pics.

In other Smash news, be sure to catch the release of Joe's Pyro Smash this Thursday night (5.8) from 7 - 11 PM at Munky King Melrose.

Dave Flores - Sketchartis

David Flores recently revealed his new Sketchartis figure due to drop on June 6th, 2008 from the new BICplastics  brand (also doing Marka27's Killa Instinct).  As Dave mentions Sketchartis brings together his previous toy designs and pushes them beyond at 12" tall with dual-welded razor sharp knives.  Dave's style is instantly recognizable and still as addicting as always.  Looking forward to this one.    Click through for unpainted sculpt pics.

Kaws 4 foot Mono Companion

Original Fake has revealed several KAWS  items in their 2nd Anniversary collection including numerous new shirts and this baby...  It appears that last year's 4 foot Brown Companion will soon be joined by this  4 foot  (mono) Companion which recently appeared on OF's site.  Release date is uncertain -- though we had initially heard Summer. Also, we've heard whispers of another KAWS toy to  be released in conjunction with the OF Anniversary.

Seen: Spring VTN

The Spring VTN (Vinyl Toy Network) went down yesterday (5.4.08) featuring exclusives, a variety of vendors, artist signings, and for the first time -- panels.  The main draw (no surprise) were the exclusives including Amanda Visell's Underwater Carnivorous Giraffe resin, Sket One's Golden Tomato Buck Eye Rot (finally baby!), and the Red-Orange Sancho from Angels and Gringos.

The doors opened slightly before 10:30 with the line of collectors spilling into the vendor area.  People quickly went to their booths of interest to secure the choice exclusives and only then did they relax and take a look around at the whole show.  Unlike previous VTN's, shoppers could relax as their wallets bled with music spun at the Mechanized booth  throughout the day.

VTN offered a couple of new wrinkles this year including  raffles($5 donation) throughout the day for several toys including Hachoo Monkeys, Mellows, Combat-R Zero, and the coveted Ringo (orange and the euro xclusive brown).  There were also two panels -- one focusing on the many aspects of translating 2d artwork into 3d and the other addressing the personally vexing question of whether vinyl figures are toys or at.

If all goes as planned, we'll highlight a few figure/artists with separate posts, but figured you might like some general sights from the show right here and now.  Click through for loads of pics.
