Introducing Melvin from Cameron Tiede
We teased you earlier this week. Now, here's the first look at Cameron Tiede's Melvin - his first limited edition, hand-painted resin figure. You can see it on his face, Melvin's sneaky and a bit mischeivous. He stands 6" tall at the tippy tip of his horns. These shots are of a proto Cameron hand-painted today. He'll be on display this Sunday at VTN in sculptor Julie B's Pretty in Plastic booth. I could ramble on about how resin is in many ways the 'new vinyl', but let's just say it's cool to see artists exploring this medium. Click through for more pics.

Get your BUDscription from Jamungo
This is interesting. Several high-profile artists offer 'subscriptions' -- for a certain fee collectors receive most/all of the merch (toys, prints, etc) released during the year. On a similar yet different note, Jamungo is now offering BUDscriptions running from May 08 to May 09. The deal covers all 3.75" BUDS/ NADES and variants. For $500, subscribers will receive two of every regular edition 3.75" BUD, at least one of every chase and or exclusive, at least 2 hand painted pieces, as well as prints + other BUD related merch. To subscribe send $500 via PayPal to sellmethat[at]jamungo[dot]com. Here's a sample of just a few of the BUD releases due in the coming year (thus covered by the subscription) -- SKLLBUD 2.0 (all 10), BUD Series 3, 12 BOTM releases and Daniel Danger BUDs.
Cool concept -- perfect for the platform completist. I wonder how many collectors match that description and whether we'll see similar offerings from other companies.
Robot VC3
This showed up in the inbox the other day with an interesting tagline -- "The Middle East's first Designer Toy". I'm not positive about first, but if not it's one of a very few. This is Robot VC3 designed by robotandspark in the United Arab Emirates and sculpted by Tweekhed in the UK. Even in this WIP unpainted proto page, the figure looks good. Very appealing design.
The self-funded project will be released towards the end of '08 in four very limited colorways. There are also plans for a DIY version and a crossover with the Brown Monkeys, A Dubai based art collective. Click through for more shots.
Brent Nolasco for Down the Bunny Hole
Now this is nice. Here's a look at Brent Nolasco's custom 10" Labbit for Down the Bunny Hole which opens at Rivet this Saturday, May 3rd 2008. This is one of the nicest 'kit-bashes' I've seen. it's done very well and is tied together with Brent's strong painting. The pieces all fit together naturally rather than sticking out as individual parts of other toys. Beautiful. Click through for more pics.
