:phunk Studio opened their dramatic Universe show this past Saturday (1.19.08) @ Gallery J. Chen in Taipei. While toy collectors are probably most familiar with :phunk from the recent Lei Gong vinyl figure, the studio excels with conceptual and illustration work. The work draws on a variety of culture influences including Chinese Philosophy, HK Pulp Fiction, Japanese manga, Otaku subculture, and broadly pop culture.
