Black Market Show + Benny and Red Bird Vintage (11.17.07)

Offering a new take on consumerism, the Black Market @ Black Maria: Skip the Mall group show opens this Saturday, November 17th, 2007 from 7 to 10:30 PM @ Black Maria.  Set in a baazar theme, Black Market   takes light-hearted aim at department and chain store driven consumerism  and offers an alluring alternative -- original art.   The show features original art from  Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Brooks Salzwedel, Jennybird Alcantara, Katherine Chiu, Billy Reynolds, Patrick Haemmerlein, Sam Saga, Jenn Porreca, Renee Lawter, Grace Chee, Sarah Stephens, Caitlin Keegan, Paulo Vinluan, Aaron Hitchcock, Jeremy Pruitt (Thinkmule), Darryl Blood, Alex Noriega, Ronald Llanos, Miss Withers, Melissa Contreras (Axel Honey), Angie Mason, Jon Measures, Takara, Jarrod Eastman, Casey O’Connell, Glory Tsui, Jay Wittenberg and teRk.

The evening will also feature the exclusive release of Kathie Olivas's Benny and Red Bird Vintage edition figure set  from MINDstyle (total of 50 pcs). This is the third edition of Kathie's first original art toy -- very much in demand by collectors.  Both Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters will sign their toys, prints, and Gelaskins from 5 to 6:30 PM @ Black Maria's gift shop, Under the Table.  Customers who purchase a Kathie Olivas or Brandt Peters product will receive a raffle ticket to win a custom Benny and Red Bird hand-painted by Kathie Olivas.
